Target group
Brain Blocks is suitable for a broad target group, from children to adults with diverse social and emotional support needs. The method can be applied with clients with or without a diagnosis, including individuals with intellectual disabilities and gifted individuals, as long as they are capable of basic reflection. From approximately four years of age, this is possible, as children are then able to recognize themselves as an “I” with their own feelings and thoughts. Brain Blocks is less suitable for clients with severe cognitive or psychotic disorders or when working with visual material evokes resistance and hinders reflection.
Why this course?
As a practitioner, you want to do more than simply follow steps from an instruction manual. With Brain Blocks, you learn a practice-oriented method that helps you place the client at the center. In this course, you discover how to provide tailored support for each client, so that your guidance aligns optimally with their personal situation. You learn to apply goal-oriented work forms to clarify the client’s inner organization and discover how to use Brain Blocks to strengthen communication between the client and important others.
Through the expert guidance during this course, you gain the knowledge and skills to apply Brain Blocks effectively and to understand and support your clients at a deeper level.
Structure of the course
The course consists of four course days of 7 hours, in which both the theory of the Brain Blocks method is explained and practical skills are practiced. During the sessions, you immediately start working with the method, so that you can apply it directly in your work practice. Between the sessions, you continue working independently with a module from the online learning environment, where you have access to videos, tutorials and assignments that support your learning process. The Brain Blocks book serves as a guideline. Take into account a study load of approximately 2 hours per week between sessions, bringing the total course load to 55 hours.
General informatie about the course
The course Brain Blocks for practitioners is offered at post-bachelor level. This level requires that you can independently apply the learned theory in practice. Many participants experience the course as substantial and intensive, so it is important to keep up with the material. Each course day builds on the previous one, meaning that new information is continuously linked to previously covered topics.
The course requires reflective and written skills and an active commitment to self-study. There is a supportive online learning environment, and trainers are also available outside of course days for questions and additional guidance. We assume that participants have basic knowledge of common issues in care and psychiatry, such as anxiety, attachment, loss and grief, trauma, depression, ADHD and antisocial behavior.
Assesment
The participant completes three reflection reports of three Brain Blocks sessions with a client. The first two reflection reports are used for intervision. The third reflection report, based on a new Brain Blocks session, serves as the final report. The participant passes when the final report is positively assessed.
